The latest tutorial from my Tongue Blocking Series continues on the dreaded subject of bending. I say dreaded simply as it's such a hard thing to explain, especially in a video.
I think there's some good things ot work on here if I do say so myself. I set out 4 exercises to help your tongue block bends using draw 6 in 3rd position. Draw 6 is not to difficult to bend and 3rd position is great for utilising tongue blocking. Each exercise involves a different bend e.g rising, falling, etc and practising them will help you develop your skills enormously if you are now getting the basic bending engine for tongue blocking I outlined in the last video. They obviously work for practising lip pursed bends too.
I've covered a lot of ground in the tongue blocking series now and if you've been practising you should be now be getting a basic handle on playing octaves, single notes and bending tongue blocked from hole 4 upwards. Remember some of the techniques can take a long time to learn but hopefully if you've been working through the exercises you will at least be seeing some progress. I know this is the case from some of the great feedback I've received from people on YouTube. People have commented that their tone has improved, that they are now able to move around the harmonica using tongue blocking and are playing whole songs using the technique. This is all great stuff.
We are now reaching the most exciting but tricky stage of learning to tongue block. That is bringing all the individual techniques together into one overall seamless technique which you will almost certainly have to integrate to a greater or lesser extent with your lip pursing technique on holes 1,2,3 and 8,9,10.
In the next videos we'll start bringing it altogether. My YouTube video views are now approaching 250,000 and I'm knocking on the door of 1000 subscribers. I want to thank everyone who is watching, commenting and subscribing for their support and interest. And also to those of you who read this blog!
Thanks,
Lee
